Riverdale Season 1 w/Michelle Cooper of Lifemark

Since Love YA Like Crazy‘s Carrie and Jake finished watching season one of Riverdale, they asked Michelle Cooper, host of Nancy Drew’s Mystery Podcast and cohost of Lifemark, to come on and talk about it with them. We also answer the question: How bad is Archie in the first season of Riverdale, on a scale from Betty & Veronica’s friendship to the Blossom family fortune being based on maple syrup? The answer, as well as the question, may surprise you!

This particular episode is being released to everyone, but Ear Trumpet Audio Patreon patrons at the $5/month level or higher can also hear Carrie and Jake’s discussions of the individual season 1 Riverdale episodes in the archives or as a podcast. We’ve really enjoyed doing this!

The theme song is “JOSIE HAS THE UPPER HAND” by Josh Woodward. Free download: http://joshwoodward.com/

Mr SuperInvisible: PDSMiOS 119

This week, we were randomly assigned a movie all about the perils of drug trials, Mr SuperInvisible from 1970! In this hidden masterpiece, Dean Jones stalks the lady of his dreams after a potion gives him the courage to stop talking only to his dog, by turning him invisible! But serious, this is a Saturday afternoon kids classic full of animal reaction shots, sad trumpets, and plenty of NUDE MEN. NUDE NUDE NUDE.

Episode 68 – Dater’s Handbook

Welcome to the first of what feels like an endless installment of Meghan Markle movies.  Kicking of Markle season is Dater’s Handbook from Hallmark.  This movie has just enough mini-golf to keep us interested for a good 20 or 30 minutes. Also a middle aged woman who loves REO Speedwagon so we get a glimpse of what Steph will be like in about 15 years.  We also get to hear Michelle swoon over Ted Bundy.  As if this movie wasn’t weird enough.

‘The Dust of 100 Dogs’ by A.S. King

For this episode, Carrie and Jake discuss ‘The Dust of 100 Dogs’ by A.S. King, along with our Saturday morning cartoon routine, 80s names, and whether being cursed to be reborn as 100 dogs would actually be pretty awesome. Spoilers abound, so we recommend reading the book before listening!

The next book we’ll discuss is ‘Hold Me Closer, Necromancer’ by Lish McBride.

Dune: PDSMiOS 117

This week, we stay in book land and this time travel directly into our future with Dune from 1984! This movie is a MESS but Lord helps us we love it anyway. David Lynch got his influence all over this already super complicated story and made a movie more art than narrative. There’s a reason people hate this movie, but that doesn’t stop us!

Episode 67 – A Royal Winter

Did you miss when we watched A Christmas Prince?  Have no fear because this movie is EXACTLY the same. Its A Royal Winter from Hallmark. Michelle and Steph talk about a new, much more royal adjacent rating system for these movies.  Also there’s a PSA about why your souvenir hat shouldn’t matter when you find yourself in an alley with a stranger.

I, Frankenstein: PDSMiOS 116

This week, we read the little-known sequel to Mary Shelley’s classic book, Frankenstein! That’s right, we are switching to books, starting with this one called I, Frankenstein from 2014! The book is oddly not really about the monster, but rather about an eternal war between demons and gargoyles. And there’s a lot of explosions and clubbing and the other kind of clubbing. Oh, and Frankenstein’s Monster is just called Adam, or Frankenstein, so let’s nip that little detail in the bud right away. Also, this book stars Aaron Eckhart. Do books normal star well-known actors?
